The Complete Tawang Experience
The 9-day Tawang tour is the most comprehensive way to experience Arunachal Pradesh. With extra days built into the journey, this itinerary not only covers the famous highlights but also gives you time to slow down, explore hidden valleys, visit remote monasteries, and enjoy local culture at an unhurried pace.
From the orchards of Dirang and the meadows of Sangti Valley to the grandeur of Tawang Monastery, the snowy heights of Bum La Pass, and the serenity of alpine lakes, this extended journey offers a true taste of the Eastern Himalayas.
Dirang Valley – The Scenic Gateway
Nestled between rolling hills and the Dirang River, this valley is a refreshing start to the mountains. Known for its apple orchards, hot springs, and monasteries, Dirang offers a gentle introduction before the high-altitude drives.
Sangti Valley – A Valley of Peace
In Sangti Valley, the pace of life slows. Meandering rivers, grazing yaks, and quiet villages set the scene, while migratory black-necked cranes (in winter) make the valley truly special. This extra day in your itinerary allows you to enjoy Sangti at leisure.
Tawang Monastery – The Spiritual Crown
At over 300 years old, Tawang Monastery is the soul of the region. Its golden roofs, vast prayer halls, and priceless Buddhist scriptures make it both a place of worship and a cultural treasure. With more time in your schedule, you can explore its courtyards, museums, and rituals more deeply.
Sela Pass and Jaswant Garh – Mountain Legends
The dramatic Sela Pass, at 13,700 ft, is one of the most striking parts of the journey. Its turquoise lake, snowfields, and fluttering prayer flags create a postcard-perfect view. Just ahead, the Jaswant Garh War Memorial tells the inspiring story of Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, a soldier remembered for his courage in 1962.
Bum La Pass – The Indo-China Frontier
A visit to Bum La Pass at over 15,000 ft is one of the highlights of the 9-day itinerary. Located on the Indo-China border, this high-altitude crossing offers unmatched views and a sense of standing at the edge of two worlds. Special permits are required, and we arrange them for you in advance.
Alpine Lakes – Sangetsar and PT Tso
The region’s alpine lakes, including the famous Sangetsar Lake (Madhuri Lake) and PT Tso, are tranquil and beautiful, with crystal-clear reflections of the mountains around them. These lakes, often partly frozen in winter, are among the most photogenic spots in Tawang.
Nuranang Waterfall – Nature’s Power
On your way back, stop at Nuranang Waterfall, where thundering waters drop from a height of nearly 100 meters. Surrounded by dense forest, it is one of the most stunning natural wonders of Arunachal Pradesh.
